The Show
(Dare)Devil In The Details is a show that explores and dotes on the philosophy and themes of Netflix’s DareDevil, a digression collection brought to you by A Method to The Madness and ZeroIndent.
Daredevil is a story about morality, justice and the concept of self. In immersing ourselves in the attitude and philosophy of Hell’s Kitchen we hope to draw in sharp focus what makes the story so exacting and compelling. Not just to praise the craft of storytelling, but to unpack our own feelings and thoughts about the ideas it raises: faith in a modern world, what we do with the legacy of our inheritance, and, of course, who we are. What does a name mean, claimed and given, and how do they shape us?
This is a careful story and so we will tread carefully. This may mean taking breaks to give ourselves time to process. This may mean taking breaks to deal with life. In the spirit of the show’s ideas, we aim to be considerate and present in our production and discussion. We will speak freely on and off the microphone. As we do the work, it makes us. And as we complete the work, it completes us, so we will not be afraid to unpack challenging concepts. Ultimately, we will enjoy the process to the best of our ability and allow the show to adapt when this may not be possible.

David here - a brief update on our plans now that we have the guidelines for the WAG SAG-AFTRA strike.
Donate to the emergency fund that helps our colleagues pay their rent and eat during these challenging times: https://entertainmentcommunity.org/
Read Vox's excellent coverage of the strikes here: https://www.vox.com/culture/2023/7/13/23793828/sag-aftra-strike-wga-hollywood
We haven't worked out what we'll make in the interim, read out on Youtube if you have ideas.
Otherwise, all we can say for now is fuck the AMPTP, fuck capitalism, and don't watch Daredevil on Disney Plus.
On a personal note, for those who always read the description (I know who you are you little freaks), the response from the general public has been predictably abhorrent. Go figure, right, who are they getting their news from and what's their political agenda. So if you know someone who goes "they're asking for that, that's less than I get paid" then please communicate to that person in your life that they're also getting fucked and the outcome of these strikes may well dictate end stage capitalism's relationship to labour forever.
- your socialist, now and forever, David

In a crossover event to be seen to be believed, ZeroIndent and A Method To The Madness punish Michi by watching 2003's Daredevil. David holds court trying to make the film sound good, Pat stares into the void of leather trench coats and Michi suffers through the whole thing.

Pat can't catch a break and takes us back to basics. This opening is simple, effective and epic. David has clearly just finished Andor and is back on his socialism grind
Editor's note: as Pat outlined, this recording was not ideal. The audio is the best we could make it (it's a wee bit echo-y and lacks base but hey, ain't that life sometimes?)

The story kicks off: Matt and Karen get romantic, and Elektra is here to mess up everyone's day. David loves the structural and genre symmetry and Pat keys into the way flashbacks change the underlying nature of the story.
Editor's Note: this week is the first week with David's mic, we figure it out next episode, promise.

Our best episode yet. Of anything. Period. This time the boys scratch at what it means to have an identity and whether you're ever really in the driver's seat. Then delve into love. Forgiveness. Faith. If there was ever an episode to listen to, it's this one.
David puts his own heartbreak into this one while Pat starts to see the Matrix, connecting simple truths to simple tragedies.
Editor's Note: this is my favourite episode so far: the discussion at around 30 min on Frank's world view about love is the most compelling listen for me personally. Also happens to be the episode where we finally figure out David's new mic. What a journey.

The finale of season 2 is here. Questions of sacrifice, murder, morality and redemption are raised, poised, and paused to service The Defenders. David is steeped in notions of what makes Elektra a moveable character and Pat enjoys our last slice of goodness before The Defenders.
Perhaps the most compelling point of interest is the mystery of The Hand and the Blacksky, and how The Defenders undercuts a compelling conclusion.
